Second Interdisciplinary PhD Conference of the University of Trier

On Friday, 11th December 2020, the "Graduiertenzentrum" of Trier University organises its second interdisciplinary PhD conference for doctoral students from Trier and beyond.

„Think outside the box! – PhD projects from Trier and around“

The conference is part of the initiative “DocColloq” (short for “doctoral colloquium”), a University group that was founded in November 2018 at Trier University. It provides a space for inter- and multidisciplinary exchange and cooperation, with the goal to allow PhD students from all backgrounds to get insights into foreign fields of research. 

Call for Papers!

PhD students from Trier and the Greater Region can apply until 11 october 2020 to participate in the conference by giving a lecture or presenting a poster of their PhD project or any other current research project to increase the visibility of science in the public space and to inspire people from outside the field for their ideas and research!

Applicants have to send:

1. an abstract of max. 300 words (German or English)
2. a draft structure of you proposed lecture or poster
3. a short CV (max. 1 page)

Please note that you will have to present your research to persons from outside your profession in a simple, understandable, and – ideally – captivating way. That is why you have to limit your presentations to a maximum of 15-20 minutes, so that there is enough time for joint discussion.

Applications are open to all interested parties regardless of subject area, status of the doctorate or institutional affiliation. That counts equally for interested persons from outside Trier and the Greater Region Saar-Lor-Lux, as well as for master students and graduates. Presentation may be given in German or English, the event’s moderation and the discussions will be in German and English, as well.

More about "DocColloq" and the PhD conference

The “DocColloq” offers PhD students from various fields of study the opportunity to get in touch with representatives of other disciplines, to learn how to communicate own
research and to discuss it openly with interested individuals from all disciplines. Networking with other PhD students is also a big part of the DocColloq.

In 2019, the idea of expanding the “DocColloq” scope was born. In cooperation with the “Graduiertenzentrum” of Trier University (GUT), the concept of a PhD conference was developed to make the countless research projects of PhD candidates at Universities of Trier and the Greater Region known to a wider audience, including the public – the motto is: more visibility and publicity for junior scientists!
