ARTIST STATEMENT

I stretch canvases, mix paints and wield brushes.

I program algorithms, create virtual worlds and build painting robots.

As an artist who is working both in the digital and the analog domain I have been exploring algorithms that leave traces on canvas in one form or another for many years.

I create virtual worlds in which these traces come to life and I build machines that help me to bring these traces back into the real world.

While my approach and concepts are mostly analytical, the whole process is playful and experimental. I strive to create images that also have an immediate emotional quality.

Hannes Köcher

is a media artist, programmer and painter. He develops interactive installations for exhibitions and museums, builds performance automatons and creates paintings in collaboration with his robots.
